Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD gets price cut, qualifies for full EV tax credit at point-of-sale

If you have been eyeing the Long Range AWD variant of the Tesla Model 3, now might be the best time to make the purchase. The model has got a price cut by Tesla and has qualified for the full $7,500 EV tax credit in the US at point of sale.

Tesla has started offering a $250 price cut on the newly refreshed Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor AWD. Buyers in the US can order the car from Tesla’s website starting from $47,490, down from $47,740.

The variant offers an impressive 341 miles of driving range according to the EPA’s estimates, the farthest you can go in any Tesla Model 3. Owners can cruise at a maximum speed of 125 mph after zooming from a standstill to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.

Previously, potential buyers balked at purchasing the Model 3 Long Range AWD. This is because the Model 3 Performance can be bought for roughly the same price. The latter, starting from $54,990, qualifies for the full $7,500 EV tax credit, while the former did not. Even though the Performance variant offers less driving range at only 303 miles (according to the EPA), it has other enticing qualities like enhanced performance, including a top speed of 163 mph and a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.9 seconds.

This, however, is no longer the case as the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD has now qualified for the full EV tax credit, potentially loping off $7,500 from the cost. The model made its appearance on the IRS list of qualifying EVs. This means buyers can take advantage of applying the incentive at the point of sale instead of waiting till the end of the next tax year.

The US government announced last year that it would start allowing buyers to take advantage of the tax incentive at the point of sale, making the process easier and more practical. Used EV buyers can access $4,000 in rebates. The option appeared on Tesla’s ordering website early in 2024.

For potential buyers undecided about making their next electric car a Tesla, the latest edition of Cars.com’s American-Made Index might help them make up their minds. The American EV has claimed three spots on the top 10 list of car models that push the US economy forward the most.

Tesla emerged as the only American company on the list, with the rest of the spots going to foreign car brands.

The Tesla Model Y came top of the list, followed by the Honda Passport and Volkswagen ID.4 in second and third places, respectively.

The Model S occupied the fourth position, with the Model X rounding off Tesla’s showing in the ninth spot.

While the Model 3 was present in the 2023 edition but is conspicuously missing in this year’s top 10, the publishers explained it was due to workforce and locally-sourced parts changes. It came a distant 21st on the rankings.

Cars.com assessed more than 400 vehicles for their list. It also reported that 58 percent of car buyers are willing to pay at least 10 percent more for cars that are made in the US and help generate more jobs.
